The Meaning of Avidya

Quote from Baba Rampuri:

Within avidya (ignorance) lies vidya (knowledge). Even though the syllable ‘a’ seems to negate what it touches, as is the rule in Sanskrit, it is the very syllable that gives life to every other syllable, for, even in English articulation, it is potential speech, as yet the unmanifest world, the world in potential. So more than negating, it indicates something not yet manifest.
